There are more French speakers around the world than you think! 8th graders in French I at Indian Mound Middle School in McFarland, WI were assigned countries where French is an official language.
Using the iPad app Explain Everything, they made brief audio/visual presentations to introduce them. These countries represent about half of all the French speakers around the world. |

French is an official and unofficial language on five continents. The following audio/visual presentations represent just some of the countries where French is an official language. Many of the countries we researched are in Africa because most people in the western hemisphere are unaware that French is spoken in over 25 countries there! Other countries (not listed below) in Africa where French is spoken: Seychelles, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Togo, Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Morocco, and Algeria.
Countries outside of Africa (not listed below) where French is spoken: Martinique, Guadeloupe, Réunion, Canada, Laos, Vietnam, Guyana, New Caledonia, and French Polynesia.
